Individual Counseling
Short-term Counseling
Sometimes events in your life can be temporarily overwhelming and make it difficult to see things clearly. A divorce, problems with your job, or an illness can result in depression, anxiety or unmanageable anger. These changes can be alarming to you and people close to you. Often, it is difficult for friends or family, however well meaning, to give the objective advice and counsel you may need.
It is often helpful to have someone outside of the situation listen and help put things in perspective. People feeling overwhelmed by problems frequently have trouble identifying positive options and courses of action. In an attempt to make things feel better, some people may abuse alcohol or drugs. At the time, it is difficult for them to see that their feelings may be temporary and that at some point they may feel better.
Short-term counseling can help you to understand your emotions, organize your thinking, and develop a plan to deal with your problems
Longterm Therapy
Long-term therapy allows you to explore some of the deeper meanings and experiences that have shaped your life. Someone who can focus entirely on you and listen with empathy can provide you with an environment that feels safe and supportive. Some of the issues appropriate for long-term therapy include how we were shaped by our families and friends while growing up, life transitions and our values and philosophy of life.
Exploring such issues and understanding yourself better can promote a deeper sense of satisfaction with your life.
If you are not sure if your issues would be appropriate for short-term counseling or long-term therapy, this can be explored in our first few sessions.
